Ireland, Spain, Malta and Slovenia have agreed to work towards recognising a Palestinian state, with leaders of the four countries expressing their readiness to do so when the circumstances are right. The countries met on the margins of a European Council summit in Brussels to discuss developments in Gaza and the Middle East, and agreed that a two-state solution is crucial for peace in the region.
