32 Indian fishermen were detained by Sri Lanka's navy for alleged poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Talaimannar and near Delft Island. The navy has been conducting regular patrols and operations to prevent illegal fishing by foreign trawlers, which negatively affect local fishermen's livelihoods. Since the beginning of 2024, the Sri Lanka Navy has detained 23 Indian trawlers and arrested 178 Indian fishermen.
