Georgia Republicans rejected a final push by Democrats to expand Medicaid coverage in the state on Thursday, with the Senate Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee voting 7-7 on a plan that would have provided private health insurance for lower income adults. The bill, introduced by Democratic Sen. David Lucas of Macon, proposed utilizing federal bonus money to fund the first two years of expanding coverage. Republicans and Democrats had previously argued over $1.2 billion in federal funds available for Georgia's Medicaid expansion.
