49-year-old Steven McDonnell, a crane driver, has been charged with arson after a former pub in Dublin 4, earmarked for homeless accommodation, was destroyed in a fire, causing over €2 million worth of damage. McDonnell, who denies the charge, appeared before Judge Fiona Brennan at the Dublin District Court, where he was held in custody until he could provide €2,750 bail with strict conditions. The case will be dealt with at the Circuit Court.
