50-year-old Co Clare man jailed 4.5 years for "serious sexual assaults" as acts of domestic abuse, first to plead guilty to coercive control in Co Clare.

A Co Clare man has been jailed for four and a half years for "very serious sexual assaults" on his wife as acts of gross domestic abuse. The 50-year-old part-time farmer is the first to plead guilty to a charge of coercive control before the courts in Co Clare. Judge Francis Comerford said the repeated sexual assaults were carried out "in order to dominate the injured party" and to subjugate the family to the man's whims.
