Union Home Minister Amit Shah questioned Rahul Gandhi's source of Rs 1,600 crore termed as "hafta vasooli" and defended electoral bonds, suggesting reforms instead of abolition.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to Rahul Gandhi's reference to electoral bonds as "hafta vasooli" (protection money), asking Gandhi to clarify where he received Rs 1,600 crore termed as "hafta vasooli". Shah asserted that electoral bonds were introduced to end the domination of black money in Indian politics, but were recently scrapped by the Supreme Court in February. Shah suggested that reforms should be made instead of completely abolishing the electoral bonds scheme.
