1 in 12 "twin" stars show evidence of planetary ingestion, altering their elemental composition.
A new study published in Nature reveals that at least one in twelve "twin" stars show evidence of planetary ingestion, leading to significant differences in their elemental composition. Researchers observed similarities between 91 pairs of stars with identical sizes and chemical compositions, finding that some exhibited signs of having ingested a planet. The findings suggest that planetary ingestion might be more common than previously thought.
