Riot Games has reset the direction of its long-awaited League of Legends MMO, which was announced in 2020. Co-founder Marc Merrill revealed on Twitter that the decision was made "some time ago" due to the game's initial vision not being different enough from existing MMOs. The company aims to create a unique MMO experience that truly evolves the genre, but this process will likely take "several years."
