Nigeria has deployed 157 troops for a peacekeeping mission to Abyei, South Sudan, joining the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei (UNISFA) which aims to restore peace and stability in the region. This marks Nigeria's 41st peacekeeping mission and its 100,000th peacekeeper deployed since its first mission in the Congo in 1960. The Nigerian troops have been trained for six weeks and are urged to uphold human rights and respect diversity in the operating environment.
