Kenya's Interior Ministry investigates TikTok's compliance with local privacy and user verification laws.
Kenya's Interior Ministry is investigating TikTok's compliance with local privacy and user verification laws, citing concerns about the platform being used for propaganda, fraud, and illicit content. The government has contacted TikTok's parent company, ByteDance Limited, through the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner to ascertain their level of compliance with Kenyan data protection laws. Interior CS Kithure Kindiki stated that TikTok has been used by criminals for various illicit activities, and the government is not considering a ban on TikTok without first conducting a thorough review of the advantages and disadvantages of doing so.
