Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, who made history as the country's first gay and first biracial leader, announced his resignation from the role, stating the reasons were "both personal and political". Varadkar, 45, led the Fine Gael party since 2017 and served as Taoiseach (Prime Minister) twice, first between 2017-2020 and again since December 2022. During his tenure, he became the youngest-ever leader and steered the country through Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic.
