Canada's federal procurement department has referred three cases of suspected invoicing fraud by IT sub-contractors to the RCMP, with an estimated $5 million in funds expected to be recovered. The fraudulent billing was discovered through a mix of tips and advanced data analytics and took place between 2018 and 2022, involving 36 different government departments and Crown Corporations. The government is also creating a new Office of Supplier Integrity and Compliance and tightening conflict of interest rules for public servants.
