28-year-old Blackburn Rovers striker Sammie Szmodics is set to make his Republic of Ireland debut at the third attempt, after being called up by interim head coach John O'Shea for a friendly match against Belgium. Szmodics previously had to pull out of two squads due to injury and personal reasons. He qualifies for Ireland through his paternal grandmother and has also been eligible to represent Hungary.
