South Korea experienced an intellectual property surplus of $180m in 2023, with a record copyright surplus, marking a rebound from a $1.11bn deficit in 2022. The surplus in copyright trade expanded to $2.21bn from $1.74bn in the previous year, while the deficit in trade of industrial property rights shrank to $1.86bn from $2.62bn in 2022. This is due to a record high $1.10bn surplus in culture and arts copyrights.
