Nigeria's Anti-Malaria committee summons Health Minister and Permanent Secretary over alleged misuse of $300M since 2021.
Nigeria's House of Representatives Committee on Anti-Malaria, HIV/AIDS, and Tuberculosis has summoned the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, and the Permanent Secretary, Daju S. Kachollom, over allegations of misappropriating $300 million allocated for antimalarial efforts since 2021. The committee has given the ministerial pair a 72-hour ultimatum to appear before it, threatening to order the arrest of the Permanent Secretary if she fails to honour the summons. The lawmakers are investigating how the funds were used after the Permanent Secretary failed to attend a hearing on the matter, and they are also facing questions about the exclusion of indigenous manufacturers of insecticidal nets from participating in the contract for the procurement of the items and related products.
