Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft proposes eliminating the state's income tax, which provides 2/3 of the state's general revenue fund, citing budget cuts as a way to pay for it. Ashcroft has enlisted conservative economists and low-tax advocates who previously advised then-Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback on a massive tax cut in 2012. The plan, if executed, would aim to put the state on a "glide path" to eliminating income tax.
