Maine's Board of Environmental Protection votes on adopting stricter EV standards inspired by California, requiring 82% zero-emission vehicles by 2032.

Maine's Board of Environmental Protection is voting on whether to adopt stricter electric vehicle (EV) standards, inspired by California. The proposal requires an increasing percentage of new light-duty vehicles to be zero-emission vehicles annually, starting with 51% in 2028 and rising to 82% by 2032. The decision follows a surge in EV sales in the state, where consumers face months-long waitlists for certain models. Twelve states have already adopted the EV standards, and 17 states have adopted all or part of California's low-emission and zero-emission vehicle regulations.
