France's Autorité de la Concurrence fines Google €250m for violating EU intellectual property rules with media publishers.
France's competition watchdog, Autorité de la Concurrence, has imposed a €250 million fine on Alphabet's Google for violating EU intellectual property rules in its relationship with media publishers. Google failed to negotiate agreements with media outlets for publishing links to their content and misused press content to train its AI technology. This fine is linked to a previous copyright dispute in France over online content, which resulted in Google initially appealing a €500 million fine in 2022 but later dropping the appeal. The watchdog noted that Google violated four out of seven commitments agreed in the 2022 settlement.
