Civil service pay is 10% below UK average, dropped 1.5% annually since 2011, and the PCS union urges the government to "level up".
The Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) has called on the government to "level up" civil service pay after a study showed that wages are 10% below the UK average, compared to being 5% above in the 1970s and 80s. The analysis, conducted by Dr Mark Williams from Queen Mary University, London, revealed that since austerity began in 2011, civil service wages have dropped by an average of 1.5% annually.
