Alabama's longest-serving House of Representatives member, John Rogers, resigned after pleading guilty to federal conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges related to a grant program. Rogers, 83, admitted to a kickback scheme diverting money from a fund intended to pay for community projects in Jefferson County. He agreed to resign as part of a plea deal with prosecutors, who will sentence him on July 26.
