The US Capitol Police have launched a 180-day body-worn camera pilot program, involving 70 volunteer officers, to improve public trust, de-escalation tactics, and service to Congress and the community.
The officers will manually turn on their body-worn cameras during interactions requiring police response and automatically record when they pull out firearms or tasers.
Eleven USCP cruisers will also be outfitted with dashboard cameras that automatically record when emergency lights are activated.
