The Supreme Court of India has directed the Centre to respond within three weeks to applications seeking a stay on the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024, which relate to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) passed in 2019. The CAA fast-tracks Indian citizenship for undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived before December 31, 2014.
