Study in PLOS Medicine finds lower socioeconomic status linked to higher risk of alcohol-related conditions.

A study published in PLOS Medicine reveals that individuals with lower socioeconomic status (lower income or education levels) are at a higher risk of developing medical conditions related to alcohol abuse compared to those with higher socioeconomic status. Data from over 2.3 million individuals in a Swedish database showed that both men and women with lower income or education levels were more likely to develop alcohol-related conditions. The findings contribute to the growing body of literature on health disparities stemming from socioeconomic factors and highlight the need for additional screening and preventive measures for those at higher risk.
