2021 Scottish hate crime law assures comedians and actors won't be targeted by police.

Scottish police have assured comedians and actors that they will not be targeted under the new hate crime law in Scotland. Media reports suggested that the law could be communicated through public performance of a play, which caused concern among some Scottish Conservative MSPs. Police Scotland confirmed that while a range of scenarios were included in the training material, officers had not been instructed to target these specific situations or locations. The new law, which came into effect in 2021, aims to create a new offence of stirring up hatred against protected characteristics, such as age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, and transgender identity.
