Port Ellen Distillery, a closed whisky producer since 1983, reopened after a £185M restoration by Diageo.
Port Ellen Distillery, a cult favorite since its closure in 1983, has reopened after a £185 million ($235m) restoration. The Islay-based distillery joins Brora, which reopened in 2021, as part of a £185 million ($235m) investment by Diageo into refurbishing 'ghost' distilleries. Both distilleries have gained popularity among whisky collectors, with Port Ellen whiskies selling for high prices at auction.
