New Zealand reduces RUC for PHEVs to $38/1,000 km, a temporary measure while transitioning to road user charges system.

New Zealand's government has agreed to reduce road user charges (RUC) for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to $38 per 1,000 km driven, after receiving feedback from the public. The decision was made following criticism from PHEV owners who argued they would end up paying more due to using both electric batteries and petrol. The reduced RUC rate for PHEVs is a temporary measure while the government works on transitioning the entire vehicle fleet to the road user charges system instead of the current fuel excise tax.
