Minnesota appeals court sends transgender athlete JayCee Cooper's lawsuit against USA Powerlifting back to trial court to determine unlawful denial in women's competitions.
A Minnesota appeals court has sent the lawsuit of a transgender athlete, JayCee Cooper, back to a trial court to determine if she was unlawfully denied entry into women's competitions due to her gender identity. Cooper sued USA Powerlifting in 2021, claiming they violated the Minnesota Human Rights Act by barring her from women's division. Last year, a district court judge found USA Powerlifting guilty of discrimination. The organization appealed, and Cooper cross-appealed. The Minnesota Court of Appeals affirmed, reversed, and sent back parts of the case.
