BBC Studios plans to sell ads on podcasts on commercial sites such as Apple and Spotify, which could "profoundly distort competition", critics warn. However, those listening via BBC Sounds will not hear ads. The commercial arm of the BBC aims to generate UK sales by having hosting platforms introduce ads and plans to phase them in on selected content from late 2024 or early 2025.
