26 individuals were arrested in Southwest Nova Scotia between March 6-20 for unauthorized elver fishing, which is illegal in the region in 2024. Fishery officers seized six vehicles, seven fyke nets, 59 dip nets, elver fishing equipment, a firearm, and approximately 6.54 kg of elver. The closed elver fishery is a threat to fish stock sustainability and undermines law-abiding fish harvesters.
