The UK's first floating offshore wind innovation centre, FLOWIC, has opened in Aberdeen's Energy Transition Zone, funded by the Scottish government and Innovate UK. The centre, designed by the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, aims to accelerate the development of floating offshore wind technology, supporting up to 29,000 jobs and contributing £43 billion to the UK economy by 2050. With over 19GW of potential floating offshore wind projects, the UK is in a strong position to lead the global market, but must invest in port infrastructure and supply chains to meet its targets.
