UK government increases EWCO payments by 45% to £11,600 per hectare for tree planting, aiming to reach 16.5% woodland cover by 2050.
The UK government has increased England Woodland Creation Offer (EWCO) payments by 45%, providing up to £11,600 per hectare for farmers and land managers to encourage tree planting. The new payment for low sensitivity land is £1,100 per hectare, while a premium payment of £3,300 per hectare is offered for highly biodiverse woodlands near ancient woodland. The EWCO aims to help the UK meet its target of 16.5% tree and woodland cover by 2050, with plans to plant 30,000 hectares of new woodland annually by the end of the current parliament.
