The UK plans to invest £58bn in upgrading electricity grid infrastructure by 2035 to connect 21GW of offshore wind power and meet rising energy demand. The upgrade includes an "electrical spine" running from Merseyside to Peterhead, and three new offshore links to connect Scottish wind farms to the east coast of England. The Electricity System Operator report suggests that no easy option exists to carry energy from offshore wind farms into the national grid.
