Mets owner Steve Cohen does not expect a long-term contract with star first baseman Pete Alonso before the end of the season. Alonso, who has a $20.5 million, one-year contract, can become a free agent after the World Series. Cohen believes that it is best for Alonso to focus on having a great year without being distracted by contract negotiations. The team has not had any discussions on a long-term deal.
