Freiburg's head coach, Christian Streich, announced his departure from the club after 12 years at the end of the current season. Streich, who has been with the club for over 29 years, led Freiburg to their most successful period in history, including appearances in the Europa League last 16 and reaching the 2022 German Cup final. The 58-year-old stated his decision came after 29 years in coaching, and was made to allow new energy and possibilities to enter the team.
