51-year-old patient receives dual kidney transplant from 78-year-old donor at AIIMS-Delhi, a first in India.

AIIMS-Delhi performed India's first dual kidney transplant on a 51-year-old patient in need, using both kidneys from a 78-year-old brain-dead donor. The surgery, carried out in collaboration with the Organ Retrieval Banking Organisation (ORBO), marked a significant milestone in the field of organ transplantation in the country. The donor's advanced age posed a challenge, as her single kidney would not have been sufficient for the patient on dialysis, necessitating the use of both kidneys.
