3,000-signature petition urges NSW Parliament to acquire and repurpose Maitland-Cessnock railway line as public transport corridor amid projected population growth.

3,000-signature petition submitted to NSW Parliament calls for state gov't to acquire disused Maitland-Cessnock railway line, currently owned by Aurizon and Yancoal, and repurpose it as public transport corridor. The Maitland-Cessnock corridor is projected to see significant population growth by 2041, with both Maitland and Cessnock local government areas expected to add around 50,000 people each. The plan to revive the railway line, estimated to cost between $100M to $200M, includes the creation of eight stations along the growth corridor.
