On March 17, four Filipino soldiers were killed in an ambush in Maguindanao del Sur province, in the southern Philippines. The soldiers, dressed in civilian clothes, were driving a civilian car to buy supplies when they were ambushed by ten militants armed with M16 and M14 rifles. The Dawlah Islamiya (DI) armed group, which has committed numerous atrocities in Mindanao, is suspected of carrying out the Ramadan attack.
