50,000 consultations under Pharmacy First scheme in one month; 29% evening/weekend, replacing GP appointments for common illnesses.

Pharmacy First scheme, launched a month ago, has had 50,000 consultations so far, with 29% occurring at evenings and weekends. The NHS initiative allows people to consult pharmacists about seven common illnesses like sore throats, earache, and urinary tract infections, instead of making an appointment with a doctor. One in three consultations are for common illnesses, freeing up an estimated 30 million GP appointments annually.
