Chinese hybrid rice variety yields over 7 tons/hectare in Fiji, advancing rice self-sufficiency.

China's agricultural expertise is advancing prospects for rice self-sufficiency in Fiji. Chen Huazao, team leader of the China-Aid Agricultural Development Project on rice planting, reported that a Chinese hybrid rice variety (NP918) yielded over 7 tons per hectare in Fiji, almost double that of local rice varieties. Despite torrential rain affecting one test field, other demonstration fields were not damaged.
