Wales' Labour Party elects Vaughan Gething, the first Black leader, as its new leader and future First Minister.
Wales' Labour Party has elected Vaughan Gething as its new leader, making him the country's first Black leader. Born in Zambia to a Welsh father and a Zambian mother, Gething will succeed Mark Drakeford as Wales' First Minister. With Gething's appointment, three of the UK's four governments will be led by non-white leaders, including UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Scotland's First Minister Humza Yousaf. Gething has held ministerial roles in health, social services, and tackling poverty and aims to create a more inclusive Wales.
