SpaceX is reportedly building a network of hundreds of spy satellites under a classified contract with the US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). The $1.8 billion contract, signed in 2021, is being carried out by SpaceX's Starshield business unit. The spy satellite network, if successful, would significantly enhance the US government's and military's ability to quickly spot potential targets almost anywhere on the globe.
