South Sudan's President Salva Kiir has sacked Finance Minister Bak Barnaba Chol and replaced him with Daniel Daniel Chuong, an engineer. The dismissal comes amid hyperinflation and a sharp depreciation of South Sudan's local currency, the South Sudanese pound, against the US dollar. The country is struggling to increase daily oil production to secure hard currency for economic stabilisation.
