Reckitt Benckiser ordered to pay £50m ($60m) to mother of a premature baby who died after being fed Enfamil baby formula.
Reckitt Benckiser's shares plunged 15% after the company was ordered to pay £50m ($60m) to the mother of a premature baby who died after being fed its Enfamil baby formula. The settlement, stemming from a jury ruling in an Illinois court, wiped £5bn off the FTSE 100 consumer goods company's value, sparking fears of further costly payouts related to Enfamil. Mead Johnson, the Reckitt arm responsible for baby formula, was found negligent and of failing to warn of the risk of necrotising enterocolitis (NEC), an intestinal disease primarily affecting premature newborns.
