Kenya's National Highway Authority impounds trucks with oversized containers, disrupting cargo transport and causing protests among transporters and shippers.
Kenya's National Highway Authority (KeNHA) is impounding trucks carrying 40-foot-high cube shipping containers exceeding 4.3 meters, disrupting cargo transport, particularly exports. The East Africa Community's (EAC) Vehicle Load Act 2016 implementation by Kenya has led to protests among transporters and shippers. The Kenya Transporters Association (KTA) requests a 0.2-meter tolerance for such containers, but KeNHA has not confirmed this. Meanwhile, Tanzania does not impound similar trucks or require permits for them.
