22 historically significant artifacts from WWII, looted during the Battle of Okinawa, returned to Japan by a Massachusetts family.
22 historically significant artifacts, looted after the Battle of Okinawa during World War II, have been returned to Japan after a Massachusetts family discovered them in their late father's personal items. The artifacts, which span the 18th and 19th centuries, include six portraits, a 19th-century hand-drawn map of Okinawa, and various pottery and ceramics. The family discovered the items and confirmed their origin after checking the FBI's National Stolen Art File. The artifacts were handed over to the government of Japan, and a formal repatriation ceremony will be held in Japan at a later date.
