2023: Fury 325 roller coaster at Carowinds closes due to a support beam crack caused by unidirectional bending fatigue.

New details emerged about the support beam crack in Carowinds' largest roller coaster, Fury 325, which led to a month-long closure. The crack was discovered by a park visitor on June 24, 2023, but the ride did not shut down until June 30. The N.C. Department of Labor's safety data report found the crack to be caused by "unidirectional bending fatigue," specifically originating at the toe of the weld and propogating around the circumference of the support column.
