Colorado may become the first state to build separate prison units for transgender felons, pending a judge's approval. A consent decree in response to a 2019 lawsuit alleging discrimination and assault against the Colorado Department of Corrections is scheduled for ruling. The decree would also require a $2.1 million payout for trans women previously or currently in CDOC, depending on severity of alleged abuse.
