Republic of Congo confirms its first mpox cases in multiple regions, following neighboring Congo's sexual transmission confirmation.
The Republic of Congo has confirmed its first mpox cases in multiple regions, following the World Health Organization's confirmation of sexual transmission in neighboring Congo last year. A total of 43 cases have been reported, including in nine out of the country's 12 departments. The mpox virus, which originates in wild animals and can spread between humans, has been spreading across Africa since sexual transmission was first confirmed on the continent last year. While the outbreak prompted mass vaccination campaigns in Europe and North America, there are no such plans in Africa.
