6 March: India's first underwater metro begins commercial operations in Kolkata, connecting Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations.

India's first underwater metro in Kolkata, a historic engineering feat, starts commercial operations. The 4.8 km East-West metro corridor connects Howrah Maidan and Esplanade stations, passing under the Hooghly River. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the service on 6th March. Passengers were seen clapping and raising slogans as they took their first ride on the country's first underwater metro train.
