The Japan Meteorological Agency reported an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8 hitting eastern Japan early on Friday. The epicentre of the earthquake was off the coast of Fukushima prefecture, where strong tremors were recorded, but a tsunami warning was not issued. No immediate reports of damage were given.
